Warner Bros. has unveiled the final trailer for DC’s Joker movie starring Joaquin Phoenix. Is a Joker movie without Batman (As far as we know) really a Joker movie? We will find out soon enough. The Clown Prince of Crime apparently got his start as the Prince Of Bad Comedy and it all went downhill from there.
This new trailer has a lot of new footage that offers us a glimpse into Arthur Fleck and his descent into madness. It looks like he is trying hard to fight his inner demons and live a good life in Gotham City, but life just keeps kicking him when he’s down. Not to mention that there’s some obvious mental illness here. A lot of it. His dark journey leads him to become the dangerous criminal that we all know and Batman’s arch-enemy.
Joker centers around the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone story not seen before on the big screen. The exploration of Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix), a man disregarded by society, is not only a gritty character study but also a broader cautionary tale.
It remains to be seen whether or not this solo Joker story is what fans really want. While it might be entertaining and maybe even a great movie on its own merits, this is not the Joker that fans know and love. (And fear and loathe). Joaquin Phoenix looks like he is delivering an award-winning performance here though, so that’s a bonus. It will be interesting to see how this plays out with fans as it isn’t your typical superhero movie. Or even a typical villain movie. Let us know what you think below.
